This easy creamy gochujang udon pasta recipe is great for a quick dinner ready in less than 20 minutes. Bacon, cream, gochujang, and chili crisp are key ingredients.

This simple dinner has become popular in Korea and other places because of its blend of creamy and spicy flavors. Inspired by pasta carbonara, it adds flavors like gochujang for some extra spice. Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow Chili Crisp Oil is a great addition, as it adds complex heat, umami, and crunch to the creamy pasta.

How to make it

  1. Cook the noodles:

    • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
    • Cook udon according to package directions, then drain (reserve ¼ cup of the cooking water).

  2. Cook the bacon:

    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy.
    • Remove bacon with a slotted spoon, leaving a little bacon fat in the pan.
  3. Make the sauce:

  4. Combine:

    • Add drained udon to the skillet with a splash of cooking water.
    • Pour in the gochujang cream mixture and toss quickly over low heat until the sauce coats the noodles and thickens slightly (about 1–2 minutes). Do not overcook, or the egg yolks may scramble.
  5. Finish:

    • Stir in the crispy bacon.
    • Season with extra salt and pepper if needed.
  6. Plate the noodles, top with an egg yolk and Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow Style Chili Crisp Oil and enjoy immediately.
